Vintage Fishing Lures
Collecting antique fishing lures is a cheap hobby compared to many others and one can obtain lures in many ways. Most of us knows an oldtimer who have been fishing for years and very often these guys have some old stuff lying around. If you tell him that you collect old fishing lures you will likely have some of his old ones and then you are up and running.
Other great places to find vintage fishing lures are at yard sales, flea markets, garage sales, estate sales and auctions. Auctions can be both regular or online auctions as well as online marketplaces.
I will reveal my favourite method of finding items. I am a eager metal detectorist and where I live there is a large lake that is regulated. That means it produces power and is tapped all year, also in the winter time. So each spring when all snow and ice is melted the shoreline is about 60 yards further out than usual. Each spring before the water comes back I have about 1 month of detecting and each year I find a big pile of antique fishing lures. A small portion of these are old as people have been fishing there for decades. The condition of these old ones are very variable, some are in "good" shape while others are very worn and damaged, but they still are what they are, old lures. Precious to me.
